Everyone would love to believe new research technology will lead to the next big jump in human life expectancy and put a stop to the aging process. From a mechanistic point of view, the cause of the aging phenomenon is not well understood. Aging is a complex and multifaceted process, which occurs as a result of a cascade of mechanisms, all happening in parallel.
There are many micro-biologist’s who believe the potential of the mapped human genome still hasn’t been tapped, and that this accomplishment will lead to the next jump in the human lifespan. I also agree that the mapped human genome has not been tapped and will lead to huge improvements in medicine, but it is not going to stop us from aging.
Location: Devils Post Pile located right next to Mammoth Lakes in Madera County of Eastern California. Devils Post Pile was formed by molten lava and glacial ice. Thousands of years ago as the lava cooled cracks formed on the surface into hexagons one of natures most stable shapes. It is believed that during the ice age a glacier exposed this cliff of columns which stands today as one of the best examples in the entire world of basaltic columns.
Location: Dinosaur Ruines, Cahuila Rd, Apple Valley, CA Actually known by many names this site was originally intended to be a miniature golf course. These concrete dinosaurs were constructed cira the 1970s by a man named Lonnie Coffman and Gregory L. Wicker. Wicker and Air Force serviceman at the time helped to build the giant concrete, chicken wire, re-barb structures in exchange for part of his rent. Although the project never made it to completion the dinosaurs can still be found crumbling away in their same location. The true beauty in visiting these dinosaurs was to witness first hand the failed dream of an entrepreneur unintentionally made famous as a part of roadside americana.
